“Mary Mellor is Professor Emeritus at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. Her early research, and active involvement in cooperatives, was on social economy and the ecofeminist movement (including Greenham Common). She abandoned formal politics (Labour Coop Councillor) in 1979 in favour of ‘theoretical practice’ – envisaging a feminist, green socialism. She wrote ‘Breaking the Boundaries: Towards a feminist, green socialism’ (Virago 1992) and ‘Feminism and Ecology’ (1997). This led to extensive work on the radical potential of the democratisation of money: ‘The Future of Money’ (2010), ‘Debt or Democracy’ (2016) and ‘Money’ (2019).”
